- motivation
- a need or desire that energizes and directs behaviors
- instinct
- a complex behavior that is rigidly patterned. UNLEARNED!
- drive-reduction theory
- when physiological needs creates a state of arousal that drives someone to do it. (eating, drinking)
- homeostasis
- maintaining a steady internal state
- incentive
- positives and negatives that motivate behavior
- hierarchy of needs
- MASLOW. period of human needs.
- Glucose
- sugar that circulates in the blood and is major source of energy. it's low = we're hungry.
- set point
- "weight thermostat" when body weight falls below this level, and increase in hunger and decrease in metabolism causes weight restoration
- Basal Metabolic Rate
- the rate of energy spent in upkeeping basic body functions whilst resting.
