- Browser
- A program that allows you to navigate specific areas of the internet. A browser allows you to find, load and view pages.
- Cable modem
- High spped internet service that is run through your local cable
- Dialup internet connection
- A network connection which rewuires that a telephone number is dialed.
- DSL line-
- A highspeed internet line that runs through a regular phone line. Also referred to as an "always on" connection because you do not have to diconnect from it in order to use your phone.
- A system for sending and recieving messages electronically over a computer network, and between computers.
- Hacker
- Someone who uses computers illegally to get info or harm other computers
- Home page
- The opening or primary webpage on an internet site.
- Hypertext markup language
- The programming language used to create web pages
- Hyper link
- A highlighted or underlined word or graphic on a web page that leads to another web page. it links the pages together.
- Internet account
- What allows the user to get online. Typically includes a login, password, and email adress. Set up through your ISP
- Modem
- A device that connects the computer to the internet via phone or cable lines.
- Network
- A group of connected computers in either a LAN, or local area network, or a WAN, a wide area network.
- Search Engine
- A web site that searches the internet for specific information. By creating indexes or large databases of web sites(based on titles keywords and the text in the pages) search engines can locate relevent web sites when users enter search terms or phrase.
- Server
- A computer that stores info. that can be accessed via the internet.
- URL
- "Uniform Resource Locator". A URL is the adress of a specific web site or file on the internet.
