- Browser
- A program that allows people to navigate specific areas of the internet. A browser allows tyou to find, load, and view webpage`s.
- Cable Modem
- High speed internet service that is run through your local cable.
- Dialup Internet Connectin
- A network connectikon which requires that a telephone number be dialed.
- A system for sending and receiving messages electronically over a computer network, as between personal computers.
- Hacker
- Someone that uses comnputers illegally to get information or harm other computers.
- Home Page
- The opening or primary Web page on an internet site.
- HyperText Markup Language
- The programing language used to create Web pages.
- Hyperlink
- A highlighted or ubderlined word or graaphic on a Web page that leads to another Web pag. It links the webpage`s together.
- Internet Account
- What allows the user to get online. Typically includes a login, password, and email address. Set up through your ISP.
- Modem
- A device that connects the computer to the internet via phone or cable lines.
- Network
- A group of connected computers in either a LAN, or Local Area Network, Or a WAN, or Wide Are Network.
- Search Engine
- A Web site that searches the internet for specific information. By creating indexes, or large dadtbases of Web sites (based on titles, and the text in the pages). search engines can locate relevant Web sites when users enter search terms or phrase. (Examples: Yahoo, Excite, or Google.)
- Server
- A computer taht stores information that can be accessed via the internet. When users connect to a server, they can access programs, files, and other information from the server. Common servers are wEV SERVERS, MAIL SERVERS, AND lan SERVERS.
- URL
- A URL is the address of a specific Web site or file on the internet.
