- Implicit Instruction
- Whole language is an example of this - the student reads to discover and any instruction is provided on an as needed basis. The student reads to discover the letter b - we don't teach that first.
- Explicit Instruction
- We teach the "b" and then read and write about it. You clearly know what you ar teaching and your activities support that.
- Analytic Method
- Students who cannot recognize letters first have to write them. For example, children learn to write their names and then learn the specific letters. You memorize words first and then break them into their parts.
- Synthetic Method
- Same as explicit
