3)Analgesic - Action:

1)inhibits prostaglandin synthesis which decrease teh pain caused by inflammation
2)impedes both platelet aggregation and clotting action
3)reduces the mortality associated with AMI, and the rate of nonfatal re-infarction and stroke - USE:
- new chest pain suggestive of acute MI
- Side Effects:

1)prolonged bleeding
2)GI bleeding
3)bronchospasm - CONTRAindications:
-
Absolute: Hypersensitivity;Pts with known bleeding disorders
Relative: recent HX of GI bleed or ulcers - Precautions:
-
1)larger doses decrease B.S. levels and deplete liver glycogens
2)IF pt develops tinitus, immediately DC use
3)use caution in Pts with HX of asthma, pregnancy, or recent surgery - Drug Interactions:
- Use with anticoagulants such as warfarin may potentiate the platelet-inhibting effects of ASA and increase the risk of occult bleeding, contact MED. control prior to use on PT's
- Preparations:
- 81mg chewable childs tablets or 325mg Adult chewable tablets, which are commonly used in the Out-of-hopsital setting
- Adult dose:
- 160 to 325mg
- Pediatric dose:
- generall not used in the field for children
