- Latin translation of the Bible; it was the commont text of the Western church for years

- a tribal league, with 12 members, who are bound together by a shared religious tradition and shared cultic site

- an ornate box that functioned as a portable shrine; contained tablets and moses' staff

- marriage that occurs when a husband dies and his brother marries the wife, who's first child is then considered the first husband's son

- tribe within Israel that had the function of priests within Israel; they are responsible for maintaining shrines, etc.
- mercy seat
- Cover of the Ark that had two cherubs on it whose wings were outstretched over the top; considered to be God's throne
- messiah
- "anointed one"; used to designate kings in the OT
- nazarite vow
- man promises not to touch liquor or cut his hair for 7 years; at the end his head is shaved, and he is released from the vow; can be made for a lifetime
- prophet
- individual chosen or called by God in order to pass on message to the people
- the tabernacle
- portable shrine to yahweh constructed in the wilderness
- theophany
- when god appears visually to people
- apocalyptic
- a type of literate usually written in times of Persecution, used to persuade believers that God is in charge of the universe

- one of the twelve chosen by Jesus to continue early Christianity

- a letter, in the NT, and epistle is written to a specific community in response to a controversy or a question

- the future time when God's promises will be fulfilled

- technical term used in NT to refer to a statement of faith; "Jesus is the Christ"

- story, usually dealing with the Kingdom of God, told by Jesus which uses traditional images to teach crowds truth
