- translucent
- the characteristic of a material that allows some light to pass through, so that objects on the other side can be seen clearly
- reflect
- bouncing of a wave or ray off a surface, changing its direction
- spectrum
- a band of colors into which white light is seperated according to wavelength, by being passed through the prism or other material
- retina
- the inner membrane at the back of the eyeball, made up of several layers of cells that are sensitive to light and transmit the images entering the eye to the optic nerve
- prism
- an object of transparent material with three straight faces at an angle to each other which reflects visible light into a spectrum
- pupil
- the opening in the center of the iris, though which light enters the eye
- image
- a picture of am object when light rays from the object are focused on a surface
- lens
- a piece of glass or other transparent material
- refraction
- the bending of waves when they change speed while passing from one material to another at an angle
- Bioluminescence
- a giving off of light by a living organism, such as fireflies
- visible light
- the only part of the electromagnetic spectrum seen by the human eye
- ultraviolet
- waves that are part of the electromagnetic spectrum and can't be seen by the eyes; they have wavelengths shorter than those of visible light but longer than those of x-rays
- laser
- a device that produces a beam of light consisting of light waves that are of the same wavelength and whose waves vibrate in the same direction
- opaque
- the characteristic of a material that does not allow light to pass through
- Concave lense
- a lense that is thinner in the middle then it is at the edges, and curves inward
