Nucleolus
Ribosomes are made there.
Cell Wall
A rigid layer of nonliving material that surrounds the cells of plants. it's made of a tough, yet flexible material called cellulose.
Chloroplast
(plant cells only) Captures energy from sunlight and uses it to produce food for the cell. Gives plants their green color.
Nucleus
Cell's control center. It directs all of the cell's actions. It also has a membrane.
*Brain
Lysosomes
(animal cells) Small round structures that contain chemicals that break down large food particles into smaller ones. Breaks down old cell parts and releases the substances so they can be used again.
*Clean-up Crew
Mitochondria
Rod-shaped, produces most of the energy that the cell needs to carry out it's functions.
*Powerhouse
(muscle cells and other active cells have large numbers of mitochondria)
Chromatin
Strands in the nuclelous that contain genetic material.
Ribosomes
Attached to the endoplasmic riticulum or float around freely in the cytoplasm. Makes proteins.
*Factories
Cell Membrane
All cells have cell membranes. Forms the ouside boundary that seperates the cell from it's environment. It controls what comes in/out of a cell.
*Gatekeeper
Golgi bodies
Recieve proteins and other material from the endoplasmic riticulam and sends them to other parts of the cell. Also releases materials outside the cell.
*Mailroom
Organelles
Tiny cell structures, each having different functions.
Cytoplasm
Region between the cell membrane and the nucleus. This fluid is always moving.
*Ocean
(clear, thick, gel-like fluid)
Endoplasmic Riticulum
Maze of passageways, carries proteins and other materials from one part of the cell to another.
*Highway
Vacuoles
Plant cells have them/Animal cells might not.
Stores food, water, waste prodcts, and other materials.
*Storage
