- Delta
- A delta is the land that forms at the mouth of some rivers as the land drops and the river slows and enters the sea. The delta formed by the Nile River provides extremely fertile soil for Egyptian farmers.
- Fellaheen
- Fellaheen is the name for peasants in Egypt. The fellaheen are typically farmers who can grow impressive crops without aid from modern equipment. They make up the majority of the work force as Egypt depends heavily on human work in stead of factories.
- Sandstorm
- A sandstorm is a windstorm that blow dust, grit, and hot air. The early summer winds called khamsin blows sandstorms into Egypt. During the bad years, the sky turns orange from all of the sand.
- Bazaar
- A bazaar is a traditional open-air Arabic market. These can be seen just a couple of blocks down the street from high-end designer stores in Cairo, showing the very different lifestyles of Egypt.
- Reservoir
- A reservoir is a natural of manmade lake used for human needs. Lake Nasser is a reservoir that is used to perennial irrigate the fields in Egypt. Reservoirs almost always formed by dams.
- Perennial irrigation
- Perennial irrigation is an irrigation system that provides needed irrigation to the land. Lake Nasser and Answan High Dam is an example of a perennial irrigation system in Egypt.
- Capital
- Capital is wealth in the form of money or property that is owned or used in business. Lack of capital and skilled laborers has hindered the industrialization process.
- Wadi
- A wadi is a usually dry riverbed or gully that temporarily hold water from a sudden downpour. These are commonly found in dry areas like the Sahara.
- Caravan
- A caravan is a large group of merchants who join together to travel in safety. Southbound caravans used to carry salt, and northbound caravans used to carry enslaved people, ivory, gold, and feathers.
- Gamal Abdel Nasser
- Gamal Abdel Nasser was the second president of Egypt. He was important because he helped make Egypt a political power. He was the leader who gained control of the Suez Canal back. He set up the Answan High Dam in order to solve irrigation problems in Egypt.
- Suez Canal
- The Suez Canal is a manmade waterway that runs through the Isthmus of Suez. After World War I, Britain took over the Suez Canal, sparking nationalists all over Egypt to demand it back. It wasn’t until 1957 did Egypt control the Suez Canal again.
- Muammar Qaddafi
- Muammar Qaddafi is the leader of Libya since 1970. He overthrew the Libyan monarchy and formed a unique socialist government with strict adherence to Muslim laws, and some modern economic and political reforms.
