Cardio vascular system
Carries needed substances to cells and carries waste products away from cells
Ventricle
Pumps blood out of the heart
Artery
Blood vessel that carries blood away from the heart
Aorta
Largest artery in the body
Diffusion
A process by which molecules are moved from an area where they are concentrated to an area where they are less concentrated
Sphygmomanometer
An instrument that measures blood pressure
Hemoglobin
An iron-containing protein that binds chemically oxygen to molecules
Fibrin
The fiber net that traps blood cells to the wound when one is cut
Lymph
Consists of water and disolvd minerals such as glucose
Heart attack
a blood flow to part of the heart is blocked
Heart
a holow muscular organ that pumps blood throughout the body
Valve
a flap that prevents blood from flowing backward
Capillary
in here substances are exchanged between the blood and body cells
Force
a push or pull
Pressure
the force that exerts somthing over a given area
Plasma
liquid part of blood
White blood cell
bodys disese fighters
Blood transfusion
transference of blood from one person to another
Lymph node
filter lymph
Hypertension
a disorder where somones blood pressure is higher than normal
Atrium
two upper chambers in the heart that recieve oxygen-rich blood
Pacemaker
sends out signals for the heart to contract located in the right artium
Vein
blood vessels that carry blood back to the heart
Coronary artery
carry blood to the heart itself
Blood pressure
pressure exerted on the walls of blood vessels
Red blood cell
produce in the marow
take up oxygen from the lungs and deliver it elsewhwe in the body
Platelet
cell fragments that play an important role of forming blood clots
Lymphatic system
a network of veinlike vessels that returns fluid into the blood stream
Arteriosclerosis
a condition whwere fatty acids buid up in the artery that thickens the walls of an artery
What are the functions of the cardiovascular system?
Carries needed substances to cells and Carries waste away from cells
What role does the heart play in the cardiovascular system?
With each beat the heart, pushes blood through the blood vessels of the cardiovascular system
Know the route blood takes through the heart.
Blood first leaves the left ventricle. An artery carries blood to the blood vessels in the body. Veins from the body redirect blood to the right atrium. From here it enters the right ventricles. Arteries take blood to the lungs where it oxidizes. A vein takes blood back to the lungs to the left ventricle back.
Know the parts of the heart
Do you Know the parts of the heart?
What parts of the cardiovascular system contain oxygenated blood; deoxygenated?
Oxygenated- left ventricle, artery to body, Vein from lungs, left atrium

Deoxygenated- blood vessels in body, vien from body, right atrium, artery to lungs, blood vessels in lungs
What causes the pacemaker to change the rate at which the heart beats?
the pacemaker chnges the heart beat after recievng information about the body's oxygen needs
What are the three types of blood vessles? How are they similar and diffrent?
Arteries, capilaries, veins.
arteries and veins are transporters of blood.
arteries carry oxygen rich blood. Veins transport oxygen poor blood. Capilaries transfer oxygen from the capilairy to other parts of the body.
What is your pulse?
63per munnite
How do arteries help regulate blood flow?
Arteries like the heart contract and expand to help in the flow of blood.
Understand how materals difuse in and out of capilaries. How does the size ofthe artery wall allow difusion to take place?
since the capilairy wall is ony one cell thick nutrients can eaisliy pass through them.

since the capilairy wall is ony one cell thick nutrients can eaisliy pass through them.
How does blood pressure differ in veins and arteries?
Blood pressureis diffrent in veins and arteries because in veins the pressure is lower because it is farther away from the heart; the artery is closer giving it more pressure.
How does blood get back to the heart in spite of downward gravity?
Contractions of the leg muscles help more blood back to the heart. Large veins have valves that protect the back flow of blood. Breathing exerts pressure on veins that helps blood back up to the heart.
What causes blood pressure?
Pressure exerted on the arteries when the heart contracts.
What are the four components that make up blood?
plasma, red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets
What gives plasma its yellow collor?
proiten molecules
What does plasma do?
regulates waste in blood
fights disease
interacts with platelets to make blood clots
What do red blood cells do?What do they look like?
Takes up oxygen and delivers it to the body.
It looks like a disc with indentions.
What part of the blood carries the most carbon dioxide waste from the body?
plasma
what do white blood cells do? What do they look like?
fight disease
are white, bigger than red, round
what do platelets do?
clot at the sight of a cut, to stop bleeding
who discovered the four types of blood?
Karl Landstienr
why cant a person with type O blood recieve blood from somone with type A blood?
a person with Type O has anti-A clumping protiens
Where does lymph come from? What happens after it passes through the lymphatic system?
lymph comes from the capilaries
after passing through the body lymph travels through lymph nodes which filter lymph of bacteria and other microorganisms
What are the things that you can do to keep your cardiovascular system healthy?
excerize
eat a balanced diet with little: fat, sodium, cholesterol
avoid smoking
