- veins that have become tortuous and dilated because of incompetent valves.
- VARICOSE VEINS
- prone to elderly. temporarily low blood pressure and dizziness when they rise suddenly from a reclining or sitting position.
- ORTHOSTATIC HYPOTENSION
- a balloon-like outpocketing of an artery wall that places the artery at risk for rupture; most often reflects gradual weakening of the artery by chronic hypertension or arteriosclerosis
- ANEURYSM
- diagnostic technique involving the infusion of a radiopaque sub stance into the circulation for x-ray examination of specific blood vessels; the major technique for diagnosing coronary artery occlusion and risk of a heart attack
- ANGIOGRAM
- a chemical that promotes urine formation, thus reducing blood volume; are frequently prescribed to manage hypertension
- DIURETIC
- inflammation of a vein accompanied by painful throbbing and redness of the skin over the inflamed vessel; most often caused by bacterial infection or local physical trauma
- PHLEBITIS
- a venous incision made for the purpose of withdrawing blood or bloodletting
- PHLEBOTOMY
- procedure used for removing varicose or spider veins; tiny needles are used to inject hardening agents into the abnormal vein; the vein scars, closes down, and is absorbed by the body
- SCLEROTHERAPY
- condition of undesirable intravascular clotting initiated by a roughening of a venous lining
- THROMBOPHLEBITIS
- used to identify abnormal cardiac rhythms
- ELECTROCARDIOGRAPH
- causes unrestricted reproduction of immature leukocytes

- genetic disease that is most prevalent in blacks; erythrocytes are disfigured or destroyed

- infectious disease transmitted by a virus in saliva; "kissing disease"

- clogging of coronary vessels with fatty buildup
