- Cuneiform
- A form of writing with wedge shaped symbols that was used in Mesopotamia
- Coptic
- An Egyptian language no longer used accept in services of the Egyptian Christan church.
- Ziggurat
- A platform in the form of a terraced pyramid with each story smaller than the one below it.
- Pictograph
- A kind of graph that uses symbols instead of numbers to represent fixed amounts of a particular thing.
- Irrigate
- To bring water to crops usually through canals, ditches, or pipes.
- Dike
- A wall or bank built to control or hold back the water or river or sea.
- Civilization
- The stage of cultural development marked by the the presence of cites, trade, government, art, writing and science.
- Archaeologist
- A scientist who studies objects, ruins, and other evidence of human life in the past.
- Delta
- The land formed by mud and sand in the mouth of a river.
- Papyrus
- A tall reed that grows in the Nile valley. The pith(spongy center part) was used to make a paper like substance.
- Pharaoh
- A ruler of ancient Egypt. From the Egyptian word for "great house".
- Oasis
- A green place in a desert where wells provide water.
- Mummy
- A body treated for burial with preservatives to keep it from decaying.
- Hieroglyphics
- A form of picture writing used by early Egyptians.
- Pyramid
- A massive four-sided structure built on a broad base and narrowing gradually to a point at the top.
- Silt
- Fine particles of the earth that are carried and disposed by water and wind.
- Scribe
- A person who copied manuscripts and records and wrote letters.
