- right-click
- Using the right side of the mouse to copy from the internet.
- Address
- An individulalized name (or number) identifying a computer user or computer which is used in network communications to transfer messages to a particular person or machine.(e-mail address)
- arrowhead
- Also called a pointer, arrow, or cursor. Points to things when you point to it. When you are in a word processing application it's a cursor, a short line that flashes waiting for you to do something.
- Floppy Disk
- A small removable magnetic disk used to record and store information. Commonly used to transfer data from one machine(computer) to another or to back up files. (2 sizes - 3.5" = 1.44MB & 5.25" old)
- computer
- The actual casing that houses the hard drive, programs, and information needed to run the computer.
- Cursor
- The movable symbol on the computer monitor that is the contact point between the user and the data. (Blinking line)
- double-click
- Pressing twice on the mouse quickly to make something happen.(Used to open a folder, a program or a file.)
- CPU

Central Processing Unit - the part within the computer that interprets and executes the instructions the user gives the system.
- hard disk
- Also called a hard drive. A storage device inside the computer. You don't see it or touch it, but this is what most of your money was spent on in the purchase of the computer. A hard disk sends information to the computer's brain and this is where all the information goes when you shut off the computer.
- Clicking
- Pushing the button on the mouse. Quickly pushing it twice is called Double Clicking.
- monitor
- A display screen designed as an output device for a computer.
- Byte
- Eight digits in binary, 0 or 1; eight bits = the amount of used space for one character in a computer.
- disk drive
- The device that reads from and writes to a floppy disk or hard disk.
- Data
- Any kind of information that is used in computer processing.
- click
- Pressing once on the left side of the mouse to select something.
- Hardware
- All the components of a computer system that you can touch. (Examples: keyboard, mouse, monitor, etc.)
- desktop
- The work area of your computer.
- Icon
- A series of pictures on your computer screen when you turn your computer on. (A popular program is called WINDOWS!)
- Input
- When information is entered into a computer. (Common input devices are: keyboard, joystick, mouse, and scanner.)
- Joystick
- An input device (also a pointing device) that is usually used when playing computer games.
- Modem
- Short for Modular Demodulator. It allows one computer to talk to another through telephone lines. It also allows the computer to both send and receive information. Therefore, it is called an input/output device.
- Keyboard
- A set of typewriter-like keys that lets you enter data (information) into a computer.
- Mouse
- A device that controls the movement of the cursor (or pointer) on the monitor or the (display screen).
- Output
- The information that comes out of a computer after it has been processed. The information comes out on output devices such as a printer or a computer screen.
- Printer
- An output device used frequently. It allows the user to print out a "typed" or "hard" copy of what is exactly on the screen.
- Pointer
- (See Cursor) Usually an arrow
- Video Monitor
- Looks like a T.V. It is an output device used to send the processed information back to the computer user.(YOU)
- Hard Drive
- A device computers use to store large amounts of data (information) and programs.
- Software
- Set of instructions that tell a computer what to do. The set of instructions is called a computer program.
- Link
- A quick route to other web pages that may be similar or related in some fashion.
- World Wide Web
- WWW
- Bookmark
- Marking your place so that you can revisit a particular site (Similar to Favorites on the Internet)
- RAM
- Random Access Memory - the computer's temporary memory.
- Program
- Sets of instructions that tell a computer what to do.
