- Application software

- CD-ROM
- An electronic device that receives data, processes data, stores data, and produces a result.
- Computer
- The metal and plastic case that houses the main system components of the computer.
- Computer Case
- Central Processing Unit; the brain of the computer.
- CPU
- A program that helps you manage large collections of information; an electronic filing system.
- Database
- Designed to be used on a desktop.
- Desktop computer
- A removable device that magnetically stores data.
- Floppy Disk
- A device that stores and retrieves information on floppy disks.
- Floppy Drive
- A paper printout of data displayed on a screen.
- Hardcopy
- A device that holds information such as software and files.
- Hard Disk/Drive
- The physical parts of a computer.
- Hardware
- The process of entering information into a computer.
- Input
- A device connected to a computer and used to enter information and instructions. It contains numbers, letters, symbols, and function keys; looks like a typewriter.
- Keyboard
- Designed to be small enough and light enough to be used on your lap.
- Laptop computer
- A device that displays text and graphics generated by a computer.
- Monitor
- A hand-held device used to select and move items on a screen.
- Mouse
- Designed to be used on a desktop but still small enough to be portable.
- Notebook/Tablet computer
- Displays the results of processing.
- Output
- Smaller and less powerful than the other types of computers.
- Personal computers
- A device that produces a paper copy of information from a computer.
- Printer
- A device that translates information it sees on a page into a format a computer can use; prints copies like a photocopier.
- Scanner
- Allow you to hear voice, music, and other sounds from your computer.
- Speakers
- A program that has numbered rows and lettered columns used to manage, analyze, and present financial information.
- Spreadsheet
- Programs that tell the computer what to do.
- Software
- A machine readable form of data displayed on a screen.
- Softcopy
- A device that holds data.
- Storage
- Controls the operation of a computer; also called operating system software.
- System software
- A program that allows you to create, edit, and print text documents.
