- Aristocracy
- government ruled by an upper class
- Parthenon
- a white marble temple that stood at the top of an acropolis built in honor of Athena; a shrine to worship gods, to a meeting place
- Socrates
- a famous philosopher who taught that education was the key to personal growth. Unlike other teachers, he did not use memorization as a teaching tool. He had his students trained to think for themselves rather than memorizing.

- a man who was more realist than Aeschylus or sophocles; he questioned many old beliefs and ideas
