- Neap tide
- A tide with the least difference between low and high tide that occurs when the sun and moon pull at right angles to each other.
- Neritic Zone
- The region of shallow water in the ocean that extends from the low-tide line out to the edge of the continental shelf.
- Open-Ocean Zone
- The area of the ocean beyond the edge of the continental shelf
- Salinity
- The total amount of dissolved salts in a water sample
- Spring tide
- A tide with the greatest difference between high and low tide that occurs when the sun and moon are aligned in a line with Earth.
- Tides
- The daily rise and fall of Earth's waters on shores
- Upwelling
- An upward flow of cold water from the ocean depths.
- Brackish
- Water that is partly salty and partly fesh, characterisic of estuaries.

- An incline leading down from the edge of the continental shelf.

- A landform made of sediment that is deposited where a river flows into an ocean or lake.

- The process of obtaining fresh water from salt water by removing the salt.
- Estuary
- A coastal inlet or bay where fresh water mixes with salty ocean water.
- Intertidal zone
- The area that stretches from the highest high-tide line on land out to the point on the continental shelf exposed by the lowest low tide
