- Constitutional Convention. 6 changes made . Poll tax eliminated and governors term went from 2 to 4 years.

- US enters World War 1. German attacked US shipping. TN furnished 100,000 soldiers - Alvin York leader

- Lamar Alexander governor. Improved education in TN. Responsible for Nissan coming to TN. Wore a red & black plaid shirt

- Stock Market crashed-great depression begins. Too many products people weren't buying NO ONE, US or outside-US banks closing, losing jobs, drought. Black Thursday stock market crashed Oct 24, 1929. Public School employyes, no pay.

- Franklin D. Roosevelt president. New Deal - a program to get the Americans out of th Great Depression-Social Security

- TN Centennial Celebration. 100 year bday of TN & our recovery from Civil War. Centennial Park, Parthenon built for Greek Heritage. 1st state convention on women's rights to vote (Meriwether)

- World War 2 ends. Lifted America our of great depression. brought more jobs, TN expanded maunfacturing

- War of the Roses. Politics was the theme of the governors race. Rep-Alfred Taylor (red rose) Demo ran against his brother , Bob Taylor. Both got to be gov. Both from East TN

- State flag adopted. 3 white stars represent 3 divisions of TN (East, West & Middle)

- TN re-enters union. Tn last to get our first one to get back in. 14th Amendment gave slaves citizenship; Klu Klux Klan originate d in Pulaski, TN-secret social group combat barred after war-later turned a group against blacks voting.

- civil war ends destroyed TN-not Va or TN military action the most significant outcome of the war was slaves

- TVA established. Tennessee Valley Authority- 1 program of New Deal. A way to conserve national energy (electricity) on TN river.

- Autin Peay governor. Defeated Alf Taylor. TN was over 3 million dollard in debt. After 2 1/2 terms died. 3 terms got us out of debt.
- 1909
- State wide prohibition law passed. 1919 Prohibition in US (moonshine) 1933 repeated in TN very emotional issue

- US enters World War 2.
- 1925
- Scoped Monkey Trial. John Butler-Macon County introduced a bill to have only biblical taught in public schools-passed. Rhea County Thomas Scopes taught evolution and was arrested. Tried in Dayton, TN. Found gulity and charged $100 fine he got arrested & went to court-the judge wasn't suppose to set fine-jury did

- World War 1 begins in Europe. US wanted to stay neutral
- 1864
- battle of franklin union army destroyed conf. had target points in TN been taken over by union army
- 1954
- Brown vs. Board of Education. Civil Rights. Schools for black people - 1 school for black, 1 for white. A black child tried to go to a white school to get better educated. Brown sued school board and won. Opened integration of public schools in US.
- 1875
- State Board of Education. Prior to this TN education system was set up in countries, not state
- 1863
- battle of look out mt.union army drove conf. out of chatt. sam davis (21) conf. scout captured and hung in pulaski,tn said he would rather die
- 1965
- Voting Rights Act. Blacks could register to vote. Became important in the decision making of America.
- 1992
- Albert Gore, Jr., Vice President under Pres Clinton. Ran for president in 2000 (lost).

- Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr. assassinated in Memphis, TN in a hotel while doing a speech. He walked out onto his balcony and got shot at the Lorraine Motel.

- TN ratifies 19th Amendment. Women given the right to vote. TN played a major role having several key women leading

- State constitutional convention. Black males right to vote. Poll tax - must pay a tax to vote and the money would fo to education. Really bad for the poor. Slaves were free - some stayed to work for them.
