- selectivity
- selects and focuses on part of the total picture; can achieve a clarity, an order, and a beauty rarely found in ordinary life
- medium
- means by which an art form presents its material; (e.g.- sound produced by instruments or human voices is the medium of music)
- characters
- performers generally playing other people
- deus ex machina
- "god from a machine"; any device brought in arbitrarily to solve problems in a play
- ceremony
- a formal religious or social occasion , usually led by a designated authority figure such as a priest or a chief; (e.g.- graduation, marriage)
- ritual
- acting out of an established, prescribed procedure; (e.g.- Christmas or Thanksgiving dinner, Roman Catholic mass or Jewish Yom Kippur service during the High Holy Days)
- audience
- each audience is unique, especially in its reactions to what is happening on stage
- stage
- separates the audience from the performers
- director
- a person who supervises the creative aspects of a dramatic production or film and instructs the actors and crew
- costumes
- worn to impersonate a god or an animal, helps change the identity of the performer to fit into the character
