equator
The only line of latitude to go all the way around the Earth. It is halfway between the North and South poles.
prime meridian
The line of longitude dividing the east and west hemispheres.
distortion
Each map has a different view and sometimes, the views can squish or elongate some countries.
coniferous forests
The forest where the trees grow cones instead of leaves.
meridians:
an imaginary circle passing through any place on the earth's surface and through the North and South poles.
Human geography
Concentrates on patterns of human activity and on their relationships with the environment
map legend
A list of colours and symbols that were used on the map. Different maps have different legends.
Mercator
A Mercator chart represents the meridians and parallels of latitude as straight lines.
scale:
The mathematical relationship by which distances on a map reduce actual distances on earth
cartography
The making or study of maps or charts
parallel
The lines of Latitude.
biome
The different climates around the world. Each is characterized by yearly temerature, plants and animals.
compass
an instrument for showing directions, consisting of a needle or compass card that points to the north magnetic pole, which is near the North Pole.

To reuse materials that would have been thrown out.
savannas
They are usually in the hot, desert regions of the world. There are a few trees scattered among the forests.

The lines of longitude and latitude that help us find our position on the Earth.
Mollweide
The map projection in which the lines of longitude and latitude are shown as equal increments. The Earth is shown as an oval.
longitude
The measure of the distance east and west of the Prime Meridian.
Geography
The study of the climates, people, industries, temperatures, directions and elevations of the Earth.

The map projection which shows the continents and oceans accurately.
renewable resources
A resource that can be used again like the energy from the sun or the wind.

Chemicals that are used to kill insects so they won't eat the plants.

These forests grow and shed their leaves.
topography
Topography is the study of the different elevations of the Earth.

tropical rain forests
The year round warm forest with a great amount of rainfall.
contour map:
The map projection in which the different elevations of sea levels are shown using contour lines.

What each plant, animal or organism is supposed to do in the biomes.

The different ways to show the maps of the Earth.
deserts
The driest biome in the world, with little or no water. They are hot all year long.
grasslands
The biome where grass is the predominant plant which many animals thrive on.
latitude
The measure of the distance north and south of the Equator.

Global Information System
tundra
A biome in the northern regions of the world where the ground is frozen year round. Vegitation is limited.
