Glucose
The food (sugar) plants need to live.
Starch

Midrib
A LARGE vein that runs up the middle of the leaf.
Stomata
Air holes (or pores) located on the underside of the leaf.
Geotropism
A plant's response to gravity.
Shoot system
Every part of the plant that is visible above ground.
Stolon
A stem that grows along the surface of the ground, also called a runner.
Chlorophyll
The pigment or coloring that makes the plant green.
Bulb
Many layers of lower leaves (below ground) that are wrapped around a tiny plant.

Tiny packages of chlorophyll.
Sundew
Catches insects in its sticky "dewdrops".
Pitcher plant
Catches insects with its bright colors and honey-like nectar.
Cuticle
The waxy covering that coats the leaf and prevents water from escaping.

Insect eating plants.
Bladderwort
Underwater plant that catches insects.
Venus Fly Trap
Catches insects with hinged jaws that snap shut.
Epiphytes
A plant that never touches the ground. They grow in the tops of trees.
Guard cells
Cells that allow the stomata to open and close, releasing excess water.
Root hairs
Tiny roots near the end of each root that search for water and minerals.
Taproot
One main root that is very deep in the soil.
Examples-Carrot and Dandelion.

Every part of the plant that is below ground.
Root cap
A layer of tough protective cells that allow the root to push through hard ground.
Cellulose
Tough material that strengthens the stem.
Thigmotropism
A plant's response to touch.
Photosynthesis
The chemical process by which a plant produces food. The process requires - Air, Water, and Light.
Hydrotropism
A plant's response to water.
Phototropism
A plant's response to light.
