- What is an element?
- Any substance that cannot be broken down further into another substance
- What is a cell?
- The smallest unit of life capable of performing all the functions required for life
- What are organ systems?
- A group of organs that work together in performing vital body functions
- What is an organism?
- Living individuals within a population
- What is an organelle?
- Specialized membrane bound compartments within a eukaryotic cell, are responsible for certain cell functions
- What is an ecosystem?
- A community of living organisms and also the physical environment which these organisms inhabit
- What is a population?
- Division of a community into individual species. Each species living within a community is part of its own population
- What is energy?
- The capacity to do work (to move matter against an opposite force)
- What are atoms?
- The smallest unit of matter that retains the properties of an element
- What is a biosphere?
- The entire portion of earth inhabited by life; the sum of all the planet's ecosystems
- What is tissue?
- An integrated group cells with a similar function or structure or both
- What is matter?
- Anything that takes up space and has mass
- What are organs?
- A specialized center of body function composed of different tissues
- What is a community?
- All of the different organisms living within an ecosystem
- What is a molecule?
- A chemical structure consisting of atoms
