Bantu Migrations
A member of any of a large number of linguistically related peoples that migrated across central and southern Africa.

Kingdom Of Ghana
First of the great medieval trading empires of western Africa (7th - 13th century). Located in what is now southeastern Mauritania and part of Mali, it acted as intermediary between Arab and Berber salt traders to the north and gold and ivory producers to the south.

are the factory's where most trade went on and where goods were made and shipped out from.
Swahili City-States
Some of the main Swahili city-states included Gede, Pate, Malindi, Zanzibar, and Kilwa. Many of these city-states were Muslim and very cosmopolitan. Each of these states were politically independent of each other (Swahili Information).

king of the Mali empire in West Africa, is known mostly for his fabulous pilgrimage to Mecca and for his promotion of unity and prosperity within Mali. He led Mali into a golden age because of his religious tolerance and ideas, his open-mindedness and his ability to successfully control his empire.

Kingdom Of Mali
Trading Empire that flourished in West Africa in the 13th - 16th centuries. It developed from the state of Kangaba on the upper Niger River and was probably founded before AD 1000.
Ethiopia
Was established around Aksum in the 1st century A.D. and declined in the 7th century.
Trans- Saharan Trade
Trans-Saharan trade, refers to trade across the Sahara between Mediterranean countries and West Africa. While existing from prehistoric times, the peak of such trade extended from the eighth century until the late sixteenth century.
Zimbabwe
A country of southern Africa. Various Bantu peoples migrated into the area during the first millennium, displacing the earlier San inhabitants.
Sundiata
Monarch of the ancient Mali empire in West Africa.
Asante Kingdom
People of southern Ghana and adjacent areas of Togo and Côte d'Ivoire. The largest segment of the Akan peoples, they speak Twi, a language of the Kwa group of Niger-Congo languages; all together the Akan peoples make up about half the population of Ghana.
