- Non-concordance
- Different individual traits in the human specias don't share the same patters of variation across geographic space, as may be thought (e.g. skin color)
- Eurocentrism
- Viewing the world and other cultures solely through a Euro-American perspective
- White Privelege
- Benefits experienced by whites that would not be experienced by racial minorities in the same situation. The person is not necessarily a racist, and may be complete unaware of whats going on
- Affirmative Action
- attempts to give some privilege to minorities to make up for the injustices they face, and tries to gain them access to higher education and other institutional programs
- Racialization
- The categorization of people by "characteristics" that determine their race. This act is performed by the white dominant group and is a key component of white hegemony
- Institutionalized Racism
- when racism is embedded in social structures, such as school, government, and the media. Results in problems like racial profiling and white privilege
- Internalized Racism
- When the member of a minority race that is targeted by racism begins to believe that they really are inferior, though it is not by choice
- Essentialism
- The notion that for any given race, there are a certain set of characteristics inherent to that group that distinguish them from all others
- Crossover Film
- A film that targets a narrow audience but is in fact received by a wider market
- White Studies
- A critical approach to multi-culturalism that attempts to understand white privelege
- Performance Studies
- Analyzes the way in which members of different races perform everyday tasks
- Reverse Racism
- When members of minority races treat members of the dominant group with bias based on their race, in a "reversal" of "normal" racism. Opponents of affirmative action also cite AA as reverse racism
- Progressive Characterizations
- Not to be confused with "positive" stereotypes, these are traits that demonstrate the equality of racial minorities and work to eradicate racial stereotypes
- Ethnic Identity
- recognition of one's distinction from other ethnic groups based on differences that may or may not actually exist, but are reinforced by white hegemony
- Racial profiling
- basing someone's likelihood of committing a certain act (in most cases, a crime) based solely on their race or ethnicity
