- This Amendment was drafter by Henry M. Teller which declared that the US had no desire for control in Cuba & pledged the US would leave the island alone.

- Greenback party
- This party formed in the 1870s whose platform included various measures like expanding money supply to benefit farmers in the W and S. In 1878 Greenback candidates got more than 1 million votes and 14 seats in Congress. The party faded in 1878

- Bunau-Varilla Treaty
- This treaty between US and Bunau-Varilla of Pana granted the US a 10 mile strip of land across Panama for $10 million and an annual payment of $250,000.

- In 1884 he was nominated for president by the Republicans. In his 1876 senatorial campaign, his opponents published incriminating letters in which he appeared to offer political favors to a railroad company in exchange of stock.
- The Pendleton Civil Service Act
- In 1883 Congress passed this Act which set up a civil-service commission to prepare competitive examinations and establish standards of merit for a variety of fed jobs. It also forbade political candidates from soliciting contributions from govn't workers.
- 15th Amendment
- In 1870 this Amendment was passed which guaranteed all male citizens the right to vote

- In 1896 he organized a Filipino independence movement to drive Spain ousts. His forces captured most of Luzon, the main island. In 1899 he ordered his troops to attack Manila
