The organism
Terms
undefined, object
copy deck
- matter
- invisible particles called atoms
- atoms
-
made of four elements-
carbon
hydrogen
oxygen
nitrogen - molecule
- two or more atoms join to form a molecule
- chemical reactions are
- the basis for all body processes
- three main types of chemical reactions and give a description of each
-
1. synthesis- A+B=AB
2. decomposition- AB=A+B
3. metabolism- a biochemical modification of chemical compounds of living organisms and cells - cellular level
- cells are the smallest living units of an organism
- anatomy of a cell, three parts
-
1.cellular membrane-lypids and proteins
2. cytoplasm-intracellular fluid which gives cells substance and suspends organelles
3. nucleus- large organelle containing DNA - simple diffusion
-
passive transport
substances move from an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration, this happens chemically through the cell membrane - active transport
- temporary attachments are formed between molecules and protein, the molecule can then take the protein through the cell membrane
- phagocytosis
- a cell absorbs large particles through the cell membrane (a vesicle surrounds the particle and envelopes the particle)the cell then spits out what it doesn't want
- pinocytosis
- same a phagocytosis but with small particles
- exocytosis
- expulsion of waste from the cell
- cellular reprodution
-
mitosis- when every aspect of the cell is reproduced
one parent cell divides into two daughter cells that are fully functioning
