- abdominocentesis
- surgical puncture to remove fluid from the abdomen
- anastomosis
- surgical connection between two hollow or tublar structures
- barium enema
- examination of the large intestine. Contrast is injected into rectum and x-rays are taken of the rectum and colon
- barium swallow
- barium sulfate is swallowed and x-rays are taken of the esophagus, stomach and small intestine
