Definition of Drug
An article USP recognized for use in diagnosis, cure, treatment, or prevention of disease in man or animals.
Definition of Dangerous Drug
Any prescription drug or injectable drug.
Definition of Drug of Abuse
Any prescription drug
Definition of a Prescription Drug
1) habit forming 2) unsafe for use except under the supervision of a practitioner
You have 60 days to notify the board of:
a change in name.
You have 30 days to notify the board of:
A change in address, employment, or responsible pharmacist.
You have 14 days to notify the board of:
discontinuing business.
Terminal Distributors License renewal is on
Jan. 1st
Wholesalers license renewal is on
July 1st
By September 15th the board requires that
Interns and pharmacists have renewed their licenses.
Ohio/Federal Law requires that prescription records must be kept for:
3, 2 years. We follow Ohio's since it is more strict.
A controlled prescription must have (in addition to regular prescription requirements:
Quantity written both in numbers and words, and a DEA (which we can add).
Refill laws
CV and noncontrolled = good for 1 year CIII/CIV = good for 6 months and no more than 5 refills CII = NO REFILLS
Recordkeeping for Emergency Supplies (4 things you must record)
a) name and address of the patient b) name and address of the individual receiving (if different from patient) c) amount dispensed d) original prescription number
Continuing Education Requirements
-60 hours of C.E. every three years -3 must be Ohio Board of Pharmacy approved jurisprudence -Must be reported by May 15th -Can be carried over to next time period if done after March 1st
