- flexion
- a movement that reduces the angle of a joint
- cramp
- an involuntary contraction of a muscle that can be painful
- muscle fitness
- a type of health-related; includes strength and muscular endurance
- tendons
- body tissues that connect muscles to bones
- supplements
- defined by the food and drug administation as a product taken by mouth that contains a "dietary ingredient" intended to supplement the diet
- PNF
- A type of static stretch that requires the muscles to be contracted immediately before it is stretched
- ballistic stretching
- Exercises that cause muscles and tendons to get longer than normal; caused by movements such as bouncing or bobbing
- principle of progression
- A rule that states that overload must be gradual to be the most beneficial
- set
- groups of repititions of an exercise; for example, performing 10 repititions followed by a rest is one set
- acceleration
- An increase in the speed (velocity) of a monement
- isotonic exercise
- a type of physical activityin which the body parts move
- strain
- an injury to a muscle; a tear in the muscle
- joint
- The place in the body where 2 or more bones are connected
- range of motion
- the ammount of movement in a joint

- Each instance that a person performs (reapeats) an exercise
- stactic stretching
- Excersises that cause muscles & tendons to get longer than normal; these stretches require the person to hold the muscle in the lengthened position for a period of time
- hypermobility
- too much range of motion in a joint; also called joint laxity
- progressive resistance exercise
- exercise that gradually overloads the muscles of the body to produce fitness
- isometric exercise
- a type of physical activity in which the body parts dont move
