The use of light and dark values to create the illusion of form.

Types of Shading:

A material used to hold together the grains of pigments.
Binder
A liquid that controls the thickness or thinness of the paint.
Solvent
Proccess in which an artist repeatedly transfers an origional image from one prepared surface to another.

when the artist cuts away the sections of a surface not meant to hold ink.

A line that defines the edges and surface ridge of an object.

A dark value of a hue.

An element of art that is derived from reflective light.
Color
Colors that sit side by side on the color wheel and have a common hue.
Analagous Colors
A surface that reflects a soft, dull light.
Matte Surface
A method of producing textures by placing paper over objects that have raised surfaces and rubbing the paper with graphite, wax, or crayon.
Frottage
The technique of scratching into wet paint with a variety of tools to create texture.
