- Matter is any solid, liquid, or gas
- Mass
- Mass is a measure of how hard it is to push or pull and object.
- Volume
- Volume is the amount of space an object takes up.

- A physical property is a property that can be observed without changing the identity of a substance
- Physical Change

A physical change is the change in size, shape, or state without forming a new substance.
Example: The expansion of a ballon. - Solution
- A solution is a mixture of one substance dissolved in another so that the properties are the same throughout.
- Chemical Change
- A chemical change is a change in matter that produces a new substnace with different properties from the original.
- Density

The density is the amount of mass in a certain volume of material.
Density = mass/volume - Suspensions
- A Suspension is a mixture made of parts that separate upone standing. An example is a mixture of soil and water. Products marked "Shake well before using" are often suspensions.
- Emulsions

An emulsion is a suspension of two liquids that usually do not mix together.
Example: Vinigar/Oil - Colloid

A colloid contains undisolved particles or droplets that stay mixed in another substance.
Example: Fog is a liquid-in-gas colloid. Smoke is a solid in gas colloid. - Allowy
- Allowys are solutions of one or more metals and other solids. Aloys are made by hearing, melting, and mixing the parts together. Most "metal" objects around youa re actually solid solutions called alloys.

- Pressure is the weight or force on a given area

The upward push of an object by liquid.
When any object is submerged ina flued, the fluid "pushes" in on the boject. The push is greate at the bottom than the top, so the fluid actually pushes the object toward the surface. - Soluble

Soluble means "can be dissolved."
Example: As tea particles dissolve, they spread evently trhough-out the water. The result is a mixture that looks the same throughout the cup.
