- Functional Differentiation
- a mode of distinguishing things or arrangements based on purposes or activities to which they are devoted
- Cadastral system
- patterns of settlement and land use that delineates property lines
- Desertification
- encroachment of desert conditions on moister zones along the desert margin where plant cover and soils are threatened
- Crop rotation
- annual alteration of crops that make different demands on the soil- adding or using nutrients that affect fertility.
- Aquaculture
- use of river segments or artificial bodies of water such as ponds for the raising and harvesting of food products including fish, shellfish, and seaweed
- Agriculture
- the art and science of producing food from the land and tending livestock for the purpose of human consumption
- Agribusiness
- large scale, mechanized industrial agricultural for commercial purposes. Includes seed production, planting, harvesting, transportation, processing, retail, and consumption
- Commercial Agriculture
- competitive market where farmers freely market their goods with the goal of making a profit. Roots are in the colonial system established by European powers.
- Dispersed settlement
- characterized by a lower density of population and the wide spacing of individual homesteads.
- Biotechnology
- use of genetically engineered crops in agriculture & DNA manipulation in livestock in order to increase production.
- Double cropping
- planting, cultivation, and harvesting of tow crops successively within a single year on the same plot of farmland
