- Guerilla tactics
- The most common way the Americans fought, very violent and forceful. Never had been used; very unusual-not European.
- Siege
- When an army surrounds and blockades an enemy position to attack. (Siege of Yorktown)
- Blockade
- The shutting of a port to keep people, or supplies from moving in or out. Brtain set up one against the Americans because they wanted ti orevent the Americans from getting the supplies they needed for survival, but the Americans broke through it.
- Minutemen
- Colonial militia volunteer who was prepared to fight at a minute's notice.
- Militia
- Army of citizens who serve as soldiers during an emergency.
- Artillery
- Large-caliber guns used in warfare on land.
- Infantry
- Soldiers marching or fighting on foot; foot soldiers collectively.
- Calvalry
- Troops or soldiers that fought on horseback.
- Intelligence
- The knowledge of your enemy's strategies and plans.
- Privateers
- Not only ran the blockadem but disrupted British trade in the West Indies by attacking and capturing merchant ships. This made the war very expensive for Britain.
- Prisoner of War
- A person who has been captured and imprisoned by the enemy in war.
