- IDEA 2004
- (Individuals with Dissabilities Education Improvement Act) Federal Act that protects special education students. This act only deals with sped. students.
- section 504
- Not for special education students. It is a program when students go to get help. (the sick boy who can never go to school)
- segregation
- a social system that provides separate facilities for minority groups (the dissabled in a back building completely separated from the general ed. students)
- integration/mainstreaming
- Taking the dissabled out of the portable building and putting them into art, music, physical education, and lunch with the other general ed. students.
- inclusion and empowerment
- Where ever dissabled kid should be (to he or her ability). Completely included with all general ed. students)
- I.E.P.
- (Individualized Education Plan) everyone in special education has one. The 3 components are 1, what they can already do, 2, what we want them to do, 3, how your going to do it.
- L.R.E.
- (Least Restricted Environment) in cluding them in regular education classes as much as possible
- due-process safegaurds of IDEA
- 1, Opportunity to examine records; people have a rigth to inspect and review all educational records 2, Independent evaluation; parents have a right to obtain an independent evaluation of their child at their expense of the schools expense. The school pays only if it agrees to the evaluation or of it is required by a hearing officer. 3, Prior notice- parental consent; schoolds must provide written notice to parents before the school initiates or changes the identification, evalutation, or placement of a child. Consent must be obtained before conducting the evalutation and before initial placement. 4, Contents of notice; parental notice must provide a description of the porposed actions in the written native language of the home. If the communication is not written, oral notification must be given. the notice must be understandable to the parents. 5, Impartial due-process hearing, mediation, resolution; a parent or school may initiate a due-process hearing, engage in mediation, or a resolution session to resolve a dispute.

- specific learning dissabilities, speech or language impairments, mental retardation, emotional disturbance, multiple disabilities, hearing impairments, orthopedic impairments, other health impairments, visual impairments, autism, deaf-blindness, traumatic brain injury, developmental delay

- they work closely with the teacher to provide instructional support and sometimes direct intstruction to students with learning difficulties.

- -school personnel should: be actively involved with families/parents recognize that parents vary tremendously in knowledge and expertise -parents comes into your room: any controversy, have someone sit in take notes be an active listener sitting with parents talk about communication share possitives.

- (Respones to Intervention) what you did and whether it worker or not.
- P.I.T.
- (Prereferal Intervention Team) before giving the child a referal. Tier 1, 2, and 3.
- accomodations
- changes in delivery of instruction, type of student performance, or method of assessment that does not significantly change the content or difficulty of the cirriculum
- modifications
- more significant departures fromthe general education assessment and/or instructional program and might include substituting a text written on the same subject but using simpler wording, or requiring only half of the math problems assigned to the rest of the class.

- Spanish speaking students be tested in Spanish. Italian speaking students be tested in Italian.

- (Behavioral Intervention Plan) not everyone has one. Behavioral problem students do. Students have to be in special education though.

- Classroom teacher takes steps to address the ares of need small group instruction within the classroom accomidations frequent (short) assessments track progress 8 week intervention
- Tier 2
- Tier 1 plus: 30 minutes of additional instruction outside of regular curriculum targeted instruction modifications and accomidations 9 week intervention (at the most)
- Behavior Tier 2
- Behavior contract check in- check out accomidations: preferred seating, visual cues and prompts, positive reinforcement timeline is student dependent
- Tier 3
- Tier 1 & 2 plus: 30 more minutes of additional instruction outside of reg. curri. targeted instruction with specialist small group or 1 on 1
- Behavior Tier 3
- social skilld group counseling sessions behavior intervention plan consult with behavior specialist or LSSP mentoring program
