- HARD DETERMINISM
- teh view that every event, including human actions is causally determined and there is no free will
- SOFT DETERMINISM
- the view that all actions are determined, but that this still allows for free will. A soft determinist will be a compatibilist
- LIBERTARIANISM
- the view that human beings sometimes make chocies that are not fully causally determined
- MORAL RESPONSABLITY ARGUMENT
- all actions determined--every choice a person makes is not really dependent on them, but on series of causes outside of the indviduals control
- MORAL RESPONABLITY ARGUMENT: IF ACTIONS DEPENDENT
- if actions dependent on something outside of their control, they are not morally responable therfore.. determinism falst
- INTROSPECTIVE ARGUMENT
- when i reflect on a particular chocice, i am aware of two genuine options that i CAN choose if determinism is true there is only one option i can really choose.. determinism false
- CRITISIM OF MRA:
- actions are not really causally determined, there is nothing that can be held responsiable for my actions. there some sort determinism must be tru other no link to my actions
- CRITISM OF IA:
- a. awarness of the fact that my action is not causally determined b. awarness of the fact i am not aware of what determines my action. b. unclear what reveals introspective reason needed to deny determinism
- FUNCTIONALISM
- compatible with materlism- if cause of behavior is physical, the mental state will be physical pain= c fibers
- TYPE-TYPE IDENITY THEORY
- view attempts to dientify mental states and physical state directly. Pain is necessarily identical to whatever physical process is correlated with pain= c fibers
