- Application software

Software that performs specific tasks for users. Popular application software includes a Web browser, word processing software, spreadsheet software, database software, and presentation graphics software.

- Computer-aided manufacturing
- Use of computers to assist with manufacturing processes such as fabrication and assembly. Also called CAM.
- Data
- Collection of unprocessed items, which can include text, numbers, images, audio, and video.
- FAQ (frequently asked questions)
- List that helps a user find answers to commonly asked questions.
- Hardware
- Electric, electronic, and mechanical components contained in a computer; include input devices, output devices, a system unit, storage devices, and communications devices.
- Input device
- Any hardware component that allows a user to enter data or instructions into a computer; widely used input devices include the keyboard, mouse, microphone, scanner, digital camera, and PC video camera.
- Internet
- Worldwide collection of networks that connects millions of businesses, government agencies, educational institutions, and individuals.
- Network
- Collection of computers and devices connected together via communications devices and transmission media, allowing computers to share resources, such as hardware, software, data, and information.
- Online
- Describes the state of a computer when connected to a network.
- Output device
- Hardware component that conveys information to one or more people; commonly used output devices include a printer, monitor, and speakers.
- Storage device
- Hardware used to record (write) and/or retrieve (read) items to and from storage media; common storage devices include drives and readers.
- Storage media
- Hardware located in or connected to a computer for storage of data, instructions, and information; examples include floppy disks, ZipĀ® disks, hard disks, CDs, DVDs, and memory cards.
- System unit
- Box-like case that contains electronic components of the computer used to process data; usually is part of or connected to a circuit board called the motherboard.
- Web
- One of the more popular services on the Internet that contains billions of documents called Web pages. The Web is like a global library of information available to anyone connected to the Internet. Also called the World Wide Web.
