- Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
- The purpose of the ADA is to provide “a clear and comprehensive national mandate for the elimination of discrimination against individuals with disabilities.â€

- Collating
- Collect in one file all materials pertaining to a patient, and group this information by category, for example, progress notes and laboratory reports.
- Colleague
- A fellow member of a profession.
- Co-Pay
- A medical insurance plan which requires the patient pay a designated amount or percentage (for example $10 or 20%) of a bill for medical services or medication. This amount is usually collected at time of service. The rest of the bill (in this example 80%) is paid by the insurance company.

- Overbooking
- The practice of scheduling more than one patient in the same time slot. This practice is not recommended. This is also referred to as double or triple booking.

- A trial period during the early months of employment to see if there is a fit between the employee and the position. It is usually 3 months in length. During this period the employee can be dismissed without cause.

- A reminder or hint to the user that some action must be taken by the user before processing of data can continue.

- A physician’s staff employee, often a medical assistant, who greets and assists patients as they come into the office. The receptionist usually sits in an area where the waiting patients can be observed.

- Software
- A set or sets of programmed instructions that tell the computer hardware what to do in order to complete the required data processing (also called a program).
- Solvent
- Having sufficient assets (money) to pay debts.
- Terminal
- Also called the monitor or dumb terminal; allows the computer operator to see input and output.
- Vendor
- A supplier of material goods.
